Felted ATCs

I've been dying to try out my new Pfaff Embellisher. So this weekend I created these little cuties!

The one on the left is felted merino wool. It felts quickly and smoothly. I felted in a bit of crochet lace and I was amazed at how easily it felted into place. A bit of beading with metalic seed beads finishes it off.

The one on the right is similar, but done with three colors of cotswall wool (did I spell that right?) This roving felted super fast, but it is difficult to get the shorter fibers to look smooth. However it is thicker and springier that the merino.

Top pic is a bit of hand dyed silk. I absolutely love the way this felted! Texture like crazy! The "flower" happened when I had a bit of fabric left and no place to felt it to. I twisted it into a circle and just felted a couple of times in the center to hold it down. The brown and gold "pebbles" are a strip of silk ribbon with a bit of metalic thread. This was a bit tougher to "felt" , it didn't want to stay where I placed it but it worked with a bit of patience and practice and a tiny bit of merino fiber on top of it.

It took less than 15 minutes to "felt" these. I think I'm going to love this new machine!!

Latest Creation

I love taking on-line classes. Recently I signed up for two classes at the same time, not usually a good idea for someone with time constraints, but this time it worked well because I was able to combine the effort into one doll! The doll itself is "The Charmed One" by Sherry Goshon. Like all of Sherry's classes, this one was great fun and her patterns are a dream to make. I always learn something new with Sherry and this time it was the use of texture paste. That's what makes her hair. I have to admit, what you see here is the third attempt using texture paste for hair. First lesson learned, texture paste is heavy and if you try to do the whole head at once, the neck begins to sag from the weight. The really cool thing is I got to use skills I picked up at a cake decorating class more than 30 years ago! Goes to show, nothing learned is ever wasted...

The second class was Jean Bernard's wings class. I've got to warn you, this one is addictive!! Watching the colors burn in, playing with alcohol inks, embellishing to my hearts content! This is what heaven should be like!

Getting Started

Well, an unexpected day off. So, do I spend it working on one of the million projects I've got going? Of course not! I start something new. I've been planning to begin a blog for more than a year. I don't like to say I procrastinate, let's just say I have a very long planning stage... and too many things going on... and too many ideas to focus on... and, well, there is always tomorrow to begin!

So, we finally begin. Thank you for joining me. I hope to make this worthy of your time! Come back often and let me know what you think!
